An innovative course designed specifically for law enforcement officers. By popular demand, the course has been expanded to 2 full days of training. Course will be held on 9/21/22 and 9/22/22 from 0900-1700 hours. No prior EMS experience is required to enroll. Learn to assess, treat, and prioritize patients with traumatic injuries and life-threatening medical emergencies. This blended course integrates classroom and hands-on skills to allow students to effectively provide self-care or buddy-care in a variety of civilian law enforcement situations. The course was conceptualized and designed by a team consisting of a SWAT entry team member/tactical medic and physician with 18 years of EMS experience. Topics covered include:
Priorities of work
Assessment and Treatment of Traumatic Injuries (M.A.R.C.H.)
Bleeding control using tourniquets and wound packing
Basic Airway Management
Management of penetrating chest trauma
Identification of other potential life threats
Psychomotor Instruction and Skills Lab
Applied Ballistics Triage
Patient Extraction and Evacuation
Skills and concepts learned throughout the course are applied in the context of a law enforcement officer’s job functions. Students will be challenged to assess and manage patients in situations such as traffic stops, structure clearing, active threats, and a variety of other police calls for service, keeping in mind the student’s primary role on scene as a LEO.
