Savahanna Wagner DO, MS, MPH
Dr. Wagner is an Internal Medicine physician with 18 years of experience in EMS, disaster medicine, emergency preparedness and training. Beginning as an EMT-B when she was 18 years old, she worked in rural EMS including as the assistant training coordinator where she was responsible for developing new hire, field training and continuing education programs.
Transitioning from direct patient care, Dr. Wagner became a Crisis and Continuity advisor for the MESH coalition in Indianapolis; an organization that trains healthcare providers to effectively respond to emergencies and remain viable through recovery. She was responsible for the development of critical policies and training programs that helped ensure effective all-hazards emergency preparedness as well as the collaboration of healthcare organizations, governmental agencies, and non-governmental organizations. As part of her duties, Dr. Wagner facilitated interdisciplinary mass-casualty training programs all over the state of Indiana.
In medical school, Dr. Wagner developed a disaster medicine curriculum and worked with medical school leadership to integrate START triage into the required curriculum for second year medical students.
Now working as a full-time Internist, Dr. Wagner serves on her hospital’s emergency preparedness committee. She is passionate about teaching and bridging the gap between pre-hospital and hospital medicine. In addition to her medical degree, she holds Masters degrees in both Biology and Public Health and uses her education to serve this passion.
On a personal note, Dr. Wagner comes from a family with several members working in EMS and law enforcement. She feels personally called to using her medical knowledge and EMS experience to contribute the the safety of her community and its public servants.
